One Last Window: Australia's Top Startup Pitch Competition Pushes Back Its Deadline
Organizers have granted a final extension for founders looking to pitch live in front of top investors, global media, and a guaranteed fast track to a flagship pitch stage in San Francisco this fall.
Founders across Australia and New Zealand have been handed one more shot at a stage that has quietly launched dozens of funded startups. Organizers have pushed the application cutoff for a leading early-stage pitch competition to July 20 โ and this time, they're saying, there won't be another extension.
A Track Record Nearly a Decade in the Making
The competition has run since 2017, and in that time its alumni have built an unusually strong record for a regional pitch event. Twenty-six companies have come through the program, going on to raise more than $147 million combined and notching three successful acquisitions along the way. Backers of those companies read like a who's-who of early-stage investing โ names like Y Combinator, Blackbird Ventures, Square Peg Capital, Khosla Ventures, Microsoft, AirTree Ventures, Startmate, Techstars, and SOSV have all written checks into graduates of the program.
For most of those companies, it started with nothing more than filling out an application form.
What Founders Actually Walk Away With
Founders selected for the event will pitch live in Sydney on August 19, in front of a room stacked with top-tier investors, international press, and some of the region's most established operators. Organizers frame it as more than a pitch competition โ it's a compressed shortcut to the kind of visibility, credibility, and network access that typically takes founders years to build on their own.
The Real Prize Isn't the Cash
The top three finishers among the eight startups on stage will each walk away with up to $15,000 in payment-processing credits from the event's sponsor. But the bigger draw is the grand prize: automatic entry into a marquee startup showcase in San Francisco this October, alongside 200 other companies competing on one of the industry's biggest stages. There's no extra qualifying round โ just a direct line from Sydney to San Francisco.
Who the Program Is Actually Looking For
Eligibility spans a wide range โ from pre-seed companies to those approaching a Series B โ as long as they're based in Australia or New Zealand and can show either a working product or genuine early traction. Organizers say founders don't need to already be well known; the program is explicitly built to surface companies that aren't yet on anyone's radar. Applying is free, and the program takes no equity in exchange for a spot on stage.
The founders who show up to pitch competitions like this one aren't chasing a trophy โ they're compressing years of relationship-building into a single afternoon on stage.
- This is the final extension. The application window now closes July 20, and organizers have signaled there won't be another delay.
- The alumni track record is real. Twenty-six companies have collectively raised over $147 million and produced three acquisitions since the program launched in 2017.
- Eight finalists take the stage. Selected startups pitch live in Sydney on August 19, with the top three earning payment-processing credits.
- The grand prize skips a step. The winner gets automatic entry into a major San Francisco pitch competition this October โ no second application needed.
- It's open and free. Pre-seed through Series B startups across Australia and New Zealand can apply at no cost and without giving up equity.
