Fundamentum Frontier Advisors (F2A), an investment platform backed by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, has secured ₹3,000 crore in commitments for its growth-stage artificial intelligence (AI) and deeptech investment strategy.
The fund has received approval to increase its maximum size to ₹3,500 crore following strong investor demand. It is targeting Indian technology businesses that have developed validated products and are ready to scale commercially.
According to reports published by Business Standard and Moneycontrol on October 13, 2026, F2A plans to invest in 12 to 15 companies over the next two to three years, with individual investments generally ranging from ₹100 crore to ₹200 crore.
Where Will the Fund Invest?
F2A is targeting businesses across three broad areas:
AI-powered consumer businesses: Products using AI and emerging technologies to improve consumer experiences and services.
Enterprise software and AI applications: Business software, AI-enabled workflows, and applications designed to improve organisational productivity.
Deeptech infrastructure and engineered systems: Technologies that support computing infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, and specialised industrial applications.
The investment strategy focuses on companies with differentiated technology, established products, and the potential to expand into larger markets.
F2A is also examining opportunities in semiconductors, advanced materials, defense technology, data center infrastructure, and related supply chains.
Why Is This Fundraising Significant?
Deeptech companies often require substantial investment to develop technology, build infrastructure, and establish commercial operations. Unlike some software startups, they may need longer periods to turn research and development into sustainable revenue.
Growth-stage funding can help businesses move beyond initial product development and expand their customer base, teams, and operations.
F2A's fundraising also signals investor interest in Indian companies developing proprietary technology rather than relying exclusively on established software platforms or imported solutions.
The fund intends to support companies that can use India's engineering talent, domestic market, and specialised expertise to develop products for global markets.
Nandan Nilekani's Role
Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys and a key figure in the development of India's Aadhaar digital identity infrastructure, is the fund's anchor investor and mentor.
His involvement connects F2A with an investor who has experience in large-scale technology businesses and digital infrastructure.
The fund has attracted capital from both Indian and international investors. Reports indicate that Indian investors account for approximately 70% of its capital base, with overseas investors contributing the remaining 30%.
This mix reflects growing interest in India's technology ecosystem among domestic institutions, family offices, high-net-worth individuals, and international investors.
How Will F2A Deploy the Capital?
F2A plans to make investments of approximately ₹100 crore to ₹200 crore per company, focusing on businesses that have demonstrated their technology and are positioned for commercial expansion.
Beyond funding, the firm intends to help portfolio companies develop go-to-market strategies, connect with potential customers and strategic partners, and recruit talent.
This support is particularly important for deeptech businesses that must navigate complex sales cycles, specialised supply chains, regulatory requirements, and international expansion.
The firm has also indicated interest in technologies that address important supply-chain needs, including data centre components, power systems, batteries, cooling infrastructure, and advanced materials.
What This Means for India's AI and Deeptech Ecosystem
The fundraising could provide additional growth capital to Indian startups working on AI applications, enterprise software, semiconductors, and other advanced technologies.
For founders, the availability of larger investments may create opportunities to expand product development, strengthen infrastructure, and compete for international customers.
For the wider ecosystem, it highlights the importance of capital that supports companies beyond the earliest stages of development.
However, the fund's long-term impact will depend on its investment decisions, the commercial performance of its portfolio companies, and their ability to turn technological advantages into sustainable businesses.
