SAP is accelerating its artificial intelligence strategy across human resources, workforce intelligence and enterprise automation, combining a planned acquisition of Belgian AI company TechWolf with the rollout of its broader Autonomous Enterprise vision. The moves are designed to bring AI deeper into the business processes that enterprises already manage through SAP.

A major part of the strategy is SAP's agreement to acquire TechWolf, an AI workforce intelligence company that maps employees' skills, tasks and work activities. SAP plans to integrate TechWolf's technology into SAP SuccessFactors, giving organisations a more detailed view of workforce capabilities and helping HR teams make decisions around hiring, reskilling, internal mobility and workforce planning.

The acquisition is particularly relevant as companies rethink workforce structures around AI. TechWolf's technology uses a context graph that connects skills, tasks and work with business needs. SAP expects this information to provide a stronger foundation for AI-powered HR agents and workforce decisions.

At the same time, SAP is expanding its Autonomous Enterprise strategy. New offerings including Joule Work and Joule Assistants are intended to help employees access information, complete tasks and automate workflows across business functions. SAP says Joule Work is already being used by around 110,000 SAP employees and has delivered a reported 20% productivity improvement.

SAP is also positioning Autonomous HCM as the next stage of HR technology. Its approach goes beyond automating repetitive HR tasks, with AI assistants designed to support areas such as payroll, recruiting, onboarding, learning, career development and workforce planning.

For SAP, the broader opportunity is to make AI part of the systems enterprises already depend on instead of treating AI as a separate layer. The company is betting that deeper integration across HR, ERP, data and business workflows can increase customer adoption of its AI capabilities and create additional value from its cloud platform.

The key question now is how quickly enterprises will adopt and pay for these AI capabilities. Investors and customers will be watching adoption of Joule agents, the integration of TechWolf into SuccessFactors and evidence that AI automation can deliver measurable business outcomes.
